Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print stereograph depicting The River Thames (Isis) at Folly Bridge, Oxford. The view, taken from Folly Bridge, shows a man in a punt with children. He is sitting and paddling, (rather than standing and using a punt pole, as is the norm). On the right of the image is a landing stage that is part of the premises of Salters Steamers and a number of punts and small boats moored. At the end of the island (see notes), are a group of people along side 2 camping skiffs, with raised covers. On the left hand side, alongside the wooded bank are moored numerous Oxford college barges, which were/are used as grandstands for watching the college rowing events on the river. Further down the river are a variety of craft, including motor cruisers, rowing boats and a double scull. The 2 images, with rectangular top edges, are mounted on black card with rounded corners and there is a space of 4mm between them. Markings: Verso: Handwritten in pencil on the left-hand side,"At Folly Bridge Oxford. College Houseboats moored on left bank".
