Summary
A monochrome collotype photomechanical print stereograph depicting an elephant walking through a park. The 2 images, with squared corners, are mounted on dark cream card, with rounded corners and there is no space between them. The view shows a staged photograph of a couple in bedclothng getting into bed, which has a canopy at the head end. On the man's side are a pair of boots on the floor. At the base of the bed is a table with a book, a water carafe and glass and a lit candle in a holder. To the left of this is an open jewellery box with necklaces drapped. In the background are further pieces of furniture, whilst the walls are covered with pattened paper with a picture hung in the corner. Markings: Recto: Printed in black on the right-hand side, “Stereoscopic Views of English & Foreign Scenery” and on the left-hand side, “Permanent Stereoscopic Photographs Series PB”. Printed in white on the left-hand image, “1755. Last in Bed Puts Out the Candle”. Verso: Printed in purple on the left-hand side, “H E Owens”.
