Summary
A monochrome collotype photomechanical print stereograph depicting an elephant walking through a park. The 2 images, with squared corners, are mounted on dark cream card, with rounded corners and there is no space between them. The view shows an elephant, alongside a uniformed keeper walking through a park. There are a number of children riding in a howdah on its back. There are numerous people sitting and walking in the park, but most do not seem to be taking any interest. Markings: Recto: Printed in black on the left-hand side, “Stereoscopic Views of English & Foreign Scenery” and on the right-hand side, “Permanent Stereoscopic Photographs Series PB”. Printed in white on the right-hand image, “401 The Elephant”. Verso: Printed in purple on the left-hand side, “H E Owens”. Printed in black in the centre, "E A Brickell's, Fancy Fair, Cobham Rd, Southsea". Hand written in pencil top right, "Sanger's Circus"
