Summary
A monochrome collotype photomechanical print stereograph depicting The Needles, Isle of Wight. The 2 images, with squared corners, are mounted on dark cream card, with rounded corners and there is no space between them. The view, taken from a rocky shore, shows the row of three distinctive stacks of chalk that constitute the Needles. The lighthouse is visible at the end, as is a possible sailing ship in the distance. Markings: Recto: Printed in black on the right-hand side, “Stereoscopic Views of English & Foreign Scenery” and on the left-hand side, “Permanent Stereoscopic Photographs Series PB”. Printed in white on the right-hand image, “1864 The Needles I W ”. Verso: Printed in purple on the left-hand side, “H E Owens”.
