Summary
Hand tinted ambrotype portrait of a young girl, in an oval gold mount within a lacquered papier-mâché frame. The image depicts a three quarter length portrait of a young girl seated on a chair, her left hand resting on a small table upon which is a hat. The image is hand tinted only on the girl's cheeks. Verso of the framed image is covered in brown paper secured by strips of gold paper all around the edge of the frame. Handwritten in pencil on the brown paper is: '2333', and there is a metal loop at the top for a cord to be attached.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
