Summary
Hand tinted relievo ambrotype portrait of a Victorian gentleman, in an oval white card mount with gold rim and border, and within a gold coloured wooden frame. The image depicts a half length portrait of a man, seated, holding what appears to be a silk scarf on his lap. The image is hand tinted only on the man's cheeks. The rear of the framed image is covered in brown paper, upon which is handwritten in pencil '2333', and there is a metal loop at the top for a cord to be attached.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
