Summary
Hand tinted ambrotype portrait of a young girl, in an oval gilt and white glass mount within a decorative wood and dark stained gesso frame. The image depicts a full length portrait of a young girl, seated in a chair, next to a table with a patterned cloth. She is wearing a patterned dress, white stockings and dark boots and is holding a small book. The image is hand tinted, with very pale blue tint on the girl's dress. The rear of the framed image is covered in brown paper and has two metal loops for a cord to be attached. There is a Fenton Photographic Collection label affixed with the number 1414 handwritten in blue ink.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
