Summary
Circular gelatine silver print of Hastings Castle, beneath glass, on the lid of a circular marble trinket jar. Printed in the border beneath the image, is "Hastings Castle, J.W.S.". The initials J.W.S. refer to Joseph Welch & Sons of Portsmouth, who ran a photographic and postcard publishing business from 1864-1936 (see General Note).

Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
