Summary
An opalotype portrait, head and shoulders portrait of a bearded man, high collar and white tie, by Alexander Ayton of Edinburgh. Opalotypes are carbon prints on translucent white glass. The image is mounted in a rectangular gold frame and in an ornate cream and gold frame. Verso behind pull-out stand: a white paper label printed in gold ink: "Alex Ayton, 43 N Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh" Also on the label, top right corner, written in pencil: "1925"
