Summary
A gelatine silver stereoscopic glass slide depicting the Le Dos de Mayo (2nd May) monument Madrid The image shows a view of the monument in the plaza, surrounded by cyprus trees. Its name refers to the uprisings of May 2nd 1808, when the town of Madrid rebelled against Napoleon's invading troops. The central monument of Daoiz and Velarde is a tribute to two of the heroes of this historic event. Part of a series by Ferrier père, fils et Soulier (Charles Soulier and Claude-Marie Ferrier) is visible on the bottom righthand side of the slide. A glass slide comprising two stereographic pictures on one piece of glass, and covered with a second piece of glass inside. There is black paper around the outer edges to bind the two pieces of glass. Markings: On a white paper label on the righthand edge of the slide is handwritten in black ink: "7134, Le Dos de Mayo à Madrid" Printed within the black border of the slide, bottom left, is: "7134, Le Dos de Mayo à Madrid (Espagne)". Printed within the black border of the slide, bottom right, is: "Ferrier pere, fils et Soulier"
