Summary
Gelatine silver stereoscopic glass slide, depicting rock formation, Burrington Combe, Somerset. 2 sheets of glass, one of which has the image on one side and the other a cover glass. Between the two sheets is a black paper mask with square cornered apertures around each image. There is light brown paper binding around the edges to hold the whole slide together. A white paper label has been affixed up the right hand edge of the slide, upon which is handwritten in black ink: " 'Rock of Ages' (Toplady) Burrington". The 'Rock of Ages' relates to the hymn of that name written in 1773 by Reverend Augustus Toplady, who was said to be inspired by the gorge he sheltered in, at Burrington.
