Summary
Albumen print depicting the construction of the Bhranini (now Brahmani) bridge, Odisha, India in 1898/9 (landscape). It depicts a girder span, carried on 2 pontoons. There are 3 rowing boats in attendance carrying numerous native labourers and 3 European supervisors. On the left hand bank there is a group of labourers with a tow rope attached to one of the pontoons. On verso written in pencil "Bhranini Bridge Girder leaving dock, 10.3.99". The number 17 circled in top left corner.

Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986
