Summary
A 19th Century semi-circular embossed brown leather carte-de-visite album. The album opens to a circular format and has the capacity to hold 44 photographs. The front and back covers are covered in embossed brown leather which has a tooling decoration of floral leaf sprays following the shape of the semi-circle. The brown leather spine has embossed bands. The album is secured by a brass hinged clasp positioned at the side and mounted on the bottom back cover. The clasp fixing on the front cover is broken. There are 12 leafs which are made of heavy pale green card decorated with wild flower designs in fine gilt line. The 44 apertures are of a variety of sizes and are outlined in a fine gilt line. Below each photograph aperture is a narrow oblong aperture with curved ends which are also outlined in a fine gilt line. Some of the photograph apertures are inset with plain white paper. The inside front and back pastedowns, and free end papers, are identically decorated with a floral repeat pattern in fine gilt line. The leafs of the book have gilt edges. The inside edges of the front and back covers are covered in brown leather which is embossed with a detailed gilt pattern. Markings: The first photograph aperture is stamped in blue ink with a registration number: Rd No. 267080 There is also handwritten in pencil the number: 1133
