Summary
An Ambrotype depicting a woman in a half size portrait. The woman is seated with her left arm resting on a table. She is wearing a formal dress which is decorated with horizontal stripes on the bodice. The photograph is framed by a patterned mat which has rightangled corners at the bottom and arched corners at the top. It has a gold gilt preserver which is encased in a red velvet surround. The case is covered in brown leather. The front is tooled with an oval pattern and decorative surround. The back is tooled with a very small diamond pattern. The inside front is lined with red velvet and is embossed. The case is fastened by a brass hook and eye. The size is a ninth plate. On the back is a small label handwritten with the number 853.
