Summary
A hand-tinted ambrotype, depicting a man in three-quarter length portrait. He is in formal dress and is wearing a ring on his lefthand little finger and a watch chain is visible on his waistcoat. He is seated, resting his left arm on a table. The watch chain and ring are highlighted in gold and his cheeks are highlighted with a rose tint. The photograph is framed by a gilt double elliptical mat and gilt preserver, edged in red velvet. The case is a brown moulded thermoplastic union case, embossed in a floral pattern, with a decorative surround, both recto and verso. The case lid is lined with purple velvet and is embroidered. The size is a ninth plate. There is a small label on the back, handwritten with the number 385.
