Summary
An Ambrotype portrait of a lady in a three quarter length. She is seated, holding a book in her lap. The book has been hand tinted in gold. The photograph has right angled corners at the bottom and is curved at the top. It is mounted on embossed gold card, surrounded by a gold gilt frame, which itself is surrounded by brown velvet. The case is of burgundy Morocco leather which is blind tooled recto. On verso is a gold stamp "Mr George Ruff, Artist and Photographer, 45 Queens Road Brighton" and a small label with the number 550 on. The case is closed with two brass clasps. The page facing the photograph is lined with brown velvet. There is a hand written paper title "Miss Baily'59" bottom centre.The size is a sixth plate.
