Summary
A 19th Century photograph album, 1 of 2 similar albums made by the same hand. The album contains 78 albumen prints depicting scenes from Germany, Austria, Tyrol and Malta. The album also contains albumen prints of statues and frescos and from engravings. The whole album is bound in dark brown cloth. The corners are worn and the surface leather is abraded. The front and back boards are plain paper. The spine is plain. At the top edge of the spine is a very worn white label with the words ' Germany and Malta' handwritten in ink. The front and back free endpapers are made of plain paper. There are 21 blank pages towards the middle of the album between entries 1520698.70 and 1520698.71. Handwritten in pencil in the top right corner of the front endpaper is: "1180 75 prints" The album contains a total of 78 prints; 70 at the front and 8 at the end of the album. Generally, one print is mounted per side of the page but in places there are multiple prints mounted to the page. Most have the corners cut across diagonally. Dates, ranging between April 1884 and April 1888, are written beneath some of the prints.
