Summary
A 19th Century photograph album, Vol 3 of 3. The album contains 82 albumen prints depicting scenes from Italy, including Naples, Pozzuoli, Baja, Island of Nisida, Mt Vesuvius, Pompei, Castellamare, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, La Cava, Pesto, Parma, Lucca, Orvieto. The album also contains albumen prints of museum artefacts and classical paintings. The whole album is bound in dark brown cloth with dark brown leather spine and corners. The spine is split and the corners are worn and the surface leather has worn away. The front and back boards are identically embossed with gilt borders at the edges of the leather detailing. The spine is decorated with horizontal gilt lines. At the top edge of the spine is a very worn white label with the words 'Naples and Pompei' handwritten in ink. The front and back free endpapers are made of plain paper. Inventory number is marked in pencil at bottom right of front free endpaper. Handwritten in pencil in the top right corner of the front endpaper is: "1179 Vol III, 82 prints" There is a total of 82 prints. Generally, one print is mounted per side of the page but in places there are multiple prints mounted to the page. Each photograph as the corners cut across diagonally. A date of April 1883 is written beneath the first photograph.
