Summary
A red leatherette album containing 77 mounted albumen print photographs. The album includes a small number of views from Gibraltar and Malta, prefacing a collection of views and ethnographic portraits from British colonies including Egypt, Aden (Yemen) and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). The album is bound in dark red leatherette, with gilt edges and simple gilt tooling to spine and covers. There are a total of 34 leaves (76 pages) of off-white coloured card with some foxing and staining to edges. The last 12 leaves are blank. The front and back endpapers are made of buff paper. The number 2552 is pencilled onto the front free endpaper, top right corner.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986
