Summary
A 19th Century album containing 63 albumen print photographs of statuary, art studies and famous paintings. The whole album is bound in dark brown leather. The front and back boards are identically, decoratively embossed with a semi-geometrical design. There are a total of 11 gilt edged leaves (22 pages). The front and back free endpapers are made of plain paper with a glossy, marbled finish. On the top left hand side of the front pastedown is a small, oblong hexagonal label. The label has a black border and is printed in black ink: 'Rue de la Paix, No.1, pres la place Vendome, Durand-Ruel, vent et location, de Tableaux et Dessins'. In the middle of the front endpaper, printed in black ink, is an oval stamp: 'SERVIRE DEOD WA RE EST'. The first leaf of the album is gilt edged thick card and on the recto, in the top right hand corner, handwritten in pencil: No. 1865, 63 c-d-v. The front cover board has the remnants of two, decorative metal clasps. They are positioned 4cm from the top and bottom right hand edges. The back cover board also has the remnants of one decorative metal clasp, positioned 4cm from the top left hand edge. (The bottom metal clasp is missing.) There are 9 gilt edged leaves of stiff card, each covered in paper and having 4 apertures to each page. Each aperture is surrounded with an embossed decorative 5mm border.
