Summary
An albumen print stereograph depicting labourers working in a paddy field The print is mounted on stiff, curved, grey card with rounded corners. The images have arched tops and square bottoms. Recto: Printed in black in on the right lower margin: (75) - 3914 - Patient laborers transplanting rice-shoots on a farm in beautiful interior of Japan. Copyright 1904 by Underwood & Underwood. In the left and margin, printed in italic print in black ink: "Underwood and Underwood Publishers New York, London, Toronto - Canada, Ottawa - Kansas. In the right hand margin: "Works and Studios Arlington, N.J., Westwood, N.J Verso. Written in black ink on the top margin is: (12) Industries - Food (School Position). On the rest of the card is a description of the dikes seen in the picture behind the workres and the water filled field, the system of irrigation, the planting and harvesting of rice and the working conditions of the labourers. Below this, in English French German Italian Swedish Spanish and Russian, is the title : Patient Laborers Transplanting Rice: Japan.
