Summary
A monochrome albumen stereograph card depicting a view at Banias, the ancient Paneas and Caesarea Philippi, Nr. 431 of a series of "views in the Holy Land". Verso: Printed in ink within an outlined rectangle: 431 Views of the Holy Land. View at Banias, The Ancient Paneas and Caesarea Philippi. This view represents a Roman aqueduct-bridge, over one of the streams of the Jordan, and the tower over the gateway of the Roman town. It is followed by a description of the district and the banks of the Jordan (colour and flora). Bottom left corner: Entered at Staioners' Hall. Bottom right corner: Depose
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection, a gift from the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2017. From 1986-1999, it was part of the BFI's collection for the Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI). The BFI purchased the collection in 1986 from James Fenton (Fenton Museum of Photography), Port Erin, Isle of Man (1976-1986)
