Summary

A Monochrome albumen stereograph card depicting the bank of the River Nile from the Island of Biggeh with a view of the temple of Philae. Print is mounted on heavy grey card . Recto: On the left hand stereograph view in the bottom left corner, scripted in ink the word Frith 346 Verso: Printed in black ink, within a printed black ink frame the number 346, in top left corner, followed by Views in Egypt and Nubia. Main title: River Wall, and South End of Philae, from the Island of Biggeh. This fine wall has its formation below the bed of the river and has withstood the rush of it's waters for more than 2000 years. The right hand side of the card has been stamped with blank ink with the name of Salmon & Co, 48 Lowoard St ? Bottom left corner: Entered at Stationers' Hall Bottom right corner: Depose

Provenance

Part of the Fenton Collection, a gift from the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2017. From 1986-1999, it was part of the BFI's collection for the Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI). The BFI purchased the collection in 1986 from James Fenton (Fenton Museum of Photography), Port Erin, Isle of Man (1976-1986)
