Summary
A monochrome albumen carte de visite depicting a full-length portrait of an unknown woman wearing a crinoline dress and striped jacket and holding a feathered hat. Background shows a mounted equestrian statue. Print is mounted on heavy white card Recto: printed in grey ink at bottom, John Burton and sons, photos and artists. Verso: sole photographers to the Shakspere(sic) Tercentenary Festival, 1864, a royal warrant stamp, patronized by her majesty the queen, HRH prince of wales, HRH princess of wales, John Burton and Sons, artists and photographers, Leicester, Derby, Birmingham, Nottingham and Burton on Trent.
