Summary
A white ceramic warming plate, by Ridgways. Of circular form with a shallow channel around the rim and a dished centre. With a lobe to one side for filling up with water, with a circular ceramic lid, screwed to a cork bung. Painted around the wall of the inside with stylised flowerheads in red, yellow and purple on leafy stems, with the same frieze to the exterior wall.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Khadambi Asalache upon his death in 2006; acquired fully in November 2010.
Marks and inscriptions
Underside: “CALIFORNIA / 6962” over “RIDGWAYS HAND PAINTED / MADE / IN / ENGLAND / BEDFORD WARE” in a ring.
