Summary
A brown transfer print and handpainted bowl, by S. Hancock and Sons. The rim decorated with a border of red flowerheads issuing blue scrolling foliage alternating with panels of lozenges among sheaves of leaves, strung with swags of pendant foliage. The dished centre decorated with a floral spray highlighted in blue and red paint.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Khadambi Asalache upon his death in 2006; acquired fully in November 2010.
Marks and inscriptions
Underside: “CORONAWARE / STOKE-ON-TRENT / ENGLAND / “ALEXANDRA”. Around a ribbon containing script “S. HANCOCK & SONS”, surmounted with a crown. Underside: “4791 / 3” in red.
