Summary
A green and brown simulated leather holdall. The top bisected with a gold lacquered metal zip flanked by two simulated leather handles. Over a pocket with Velcro attached flap top, bearing a brass shield shaped plaque inscribed with black script and design of “UNICORN” over a unicorn’s head. With a laminated plastic stiffener to the inside bottom. Tied with two travel tags.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Khadambi Asalache upon his death in 2006; acquired fully in November 2010.
Marks and inscriptions
Leather travel tag: “ABERCROMBIE & KENT / A&K / SIMPLY THE BEST WAY TO TRAVEL” in an oval. With an inserted sheet of paper to the obverse, inscribed in black handwritten script “ASALACHE / 575 / WANDSWORTH ROAD / LONDON SW8 3JD / 0171 498 2042”. Tag on handle.: The handle tied with a security check tag from Dar Es Salaam International Airport – Tanzania. Also tied with w white flight tag, printed in red ink “ZanAir” inside a logo, above airline contact details. With further script detailing flight baggage limitations. The obverse printed in red ink with script “DAR Flight No: / TAN / Date: / No: 37022”.
