Summary
Gouache on vellum Cutting Down the Trees at Versailles by Hubert Robert (Paris 1733 - Paris 1808). One of a pair of paintings after Hubert Robert. Palace seen from the garden, tree trunks lying on the ground. Men sawing, chopping and sitting by fountain which has mermaid and horse group on top. Original at Versailles.
