Summary
Square mosaic icon of saint set in a plain, rough wooden frame. Mosaic consists of border of square black and white tiles, then a border of rectangular gilt tiles, enclosing a picture of saint with gilt halo, set against a background of paler blue-green roughly shaped mosaic pieces. Four large pieces of irregular ceramic maroon tile are in place within the halo, two pieces missing. The rest of the mosaic, ie the saint's face, is missing, revealing grey plaster base which is cracked. Another crack runs through the top middle of mosaic. Reverse of frame has ten rusty screws. At the top a metal hanging ring with wire attached is held in place by three screws. Inner frame reveals ten wooden slats, partly covered in plaster to form base for mosaic.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
