His full name is Friedrich Wilheim Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt (1769 - 1859), Prussian polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, philosopher and scientist. It was painted by Eduard Hildebrandt and printed by Alexander Duncker with a written message from the subject himself indicating that it was a good picture of his work room.
