Summary
Letter from Hannah Greg to one of her sons, dated 1st March 1814 writing about the family and of the study of language and literature, advocating utilitarian learning - such as will benefit him in his (business) career, postponing the reading of poetry until later in life. This is the very opposite of her normal stance, which is to moderate Samuel's desire for his sons to acquire business skills, while she promotes the merits of literature. Mentions Mr Bell who is 88 years of age, a visit from the Birtles family; Mr Reynolds is visiting at present. She commends the works of Coley - for reading on a Sunday. A paragraph of this letter regrets that she is going to put the recipient to the expense of an extra half sheet - presumably because a post recipient paid part of the charge, and that depended on the weight of the letter.
