Summary
A Blackburn's Yarn Balance made by John Nesbitt Ltd of Manchester, an instrument for estimating the counts of yarn. The yarn is attached by a hook to one end of the balance, a small weight being attached to the other end and the number of threads that balance the beam give the count. It includes three templates for cutting the length of yarn and two sets of operating instructions and a photocopy of these. All is contained in a black leather, blue velvet-lined box and the weights are kept in a small circular cardboard box complete with instructions.
