Summary
A Universal Yarn Assorting Balance made by J. Casartelli and Son of Manchester an instrument for estimating the counts of yarn. The yarn is attached by a hook to one end of the balance, a small weight being attached to the other end and the number of threads that balance the beam give the count. It includes three templates for cutting the length of yarn. The balance is fixed into the box and the front of the box can be opened to form a stand for the balance, box is covered and velvet lined.
