Summary
A Universal Yarn Balance made by George Thomas and Co. of Manchester used for estimating the counts of yarn. The yarn is attached by a hook to one end of the balance, a small weight is attached to the other end and the number of threads that balance the beam give the count. It includes three templates for cutting the length of yarn and the box is covered by black leather and lined with purple velvet.
