Summary
One of a set of thirty two mounted photographs showing aspects of Venice and Florence, this one shows a side view of the four horses above the main door of the Basilica of St Mark, Venice. The printed text below the photograph says "I 4 Cavalli sopra la porta di S. Marco Po Salviati Venezia" and in pencil below the photograph is written "from the Hippodrome at Constantinople 1204 the Venetians share the plunder when the city was taken by the Crusaders in the IV? (century), Napoleon took them to Paris in 1797 but they were brought back in 1815".
