Summary
The black and gilt dentist's chair from R. Greg and Co., Reddish. The chair has a large round base, along with several pedals for turning and adjusting the height and angle of the chair. The wooden back is adjustable by turning a handle at the back. The footrest is also adjustable, and has a thin brass bar across the back for customers to rest their heels. There is a slot for another fixture, presumably a headrest. The metal parts have been painted black then decorated with guilded floral patterns. The chair is detachable from the base.
Provenance
The dentist's chair was a offered as a gift to Quarry Bank Mill from Albert Mill in Reddish, one of the last mills owned by the Greg Family.
