Summary
A Universal Yarn Assorting Balance no. 1 made by John Nesbitt and Co. Ltd. Instrument for estimating the counts of yarn. The yarn is attached by a hook to one end of the balance, a small weight being attached to the other end. Number of threads that balance the beam give the count. Includes three templates for cutting the length of yarn. The box is covered with black leather and is lined with blue velvet. A paper label inside the box reads "Mr. H. C. Webb Park Road, Cheadle, Cheshire". The linen template and the larger of the s-shaped hooks is missing.
