Summary
A Chinese painting on mirrored glass, depicting a female figure in a landscape sitting beside a rock, holding a staff and a basket with fruit, a buffalo (calf?) calf in front, probably made in Guangzhou (Canton), Guangdong Province, China, late 18th century. In gold on black lacquered frame.
Full description
A Chinese mirror painting depicting an almost identical scene, and in an almost identical frame, came up at auction at Chorley's, Prinknash Abbey, Gloucestershire, 23 May 2023, lot 387. A mirror painting with a similar female figure with a buffalo (but also with a male figure, and with a different composition) is at Saltram, NT 872229.3. See Audric 2020.
