Full description
Percussion sporting rifle, c1850, by Richard Jeffery, Guildford (c1850 – 1920s). Octagonal iron Damascus twist barrel with under rib and 2 ramrod pipes (the forward pipe incorporating a sling loop). Blade foresight and folding 2-leaf rear sight. The engraved breech inset with a gold line; the standing breech and tang barrel engraved. Retained to the stock by 1 barrel slide. Iron ramrod with large dome head. Length: 76cm. Calibre: 10.5mm – rifled with 8 grooves Walnut half stock with chequered wrist. Engraved steel furniture comprising; buttplate, trigger guard with pineapple finial the rear tang formed as a pistol grip, rear ramrod pipe. Horn forend cap. The underside of the butt with an attachment loop for a sling. Fitted with a “set” or hair trigger. Percussion side-lock finely engraved with foliate designs including a stag, and signed JEFFREY, GUILDFORD. The lock is retained to the stock by 1 sidenail. Overall length: 117.5cm
