Summary
Discophoros. A plaster copy of the marble sculpture in the Louvre Museum which is, in turn, after the lost bronze by Greek sculptor Naucydes The athlete is standing about to throw the discus, it differs from the Townley Discophoros in the British Museum (which has a bar joining the tree stump and the figure's proper right leg).
Provenance
Given to the National Trust in 1956 by Gwendolen, Countess of Iveagh. Marked in the National Trust’s 1966 Inventory, p4
