Summary
Glazed photographic print of Florence, Countess of Onslow (1853 - 1934), wife of the 4th Earl, with her youngest son, the Hon. Victor Alexander Herbert Huia (1890-1921). Familiarly called Huia, the 4th Earl and Countess of Onslow's youngest son was born in New Zealand whilst his father was serving there as Governor and presumably where this photograph was taken. Huia lies in his mother's lap wearing white robes with a Huia bird feather placed on his chest. This could indicate that this photograph was taken to mark Huia's naming with the Ngati Huia tribe. Unable to make positive identification of photographic process (due to glazing) but either albumen print or silver gelatine POP. Photograph second from left on row of five images above central bevelled glass panel.
