Summary
A stained glass lunette, one of six panels attributed to Betton and Evans of Shrewsbury, circa 1836. A heraldic design of three well proportioned shields, the left hand contains, inter alia, two black double headed eagles on white background, the centre, three white interlinked motifs on a ruby ground, and to the right, a chevron and three boar’s heads all on a white background. With a zig zag border of blue flowers on a red ground edged in yellow. Executed in coloured glass, rich silver stains and glass enamels.
Provenance
Probably amongst the stained glass that the Dawkins-Pennant family commissioned Betton & Evans of Shrewsbury to make. David Evans of Shrewsbury was paid £7 6s for stained glass in 1836.
