Summary
A back rest cushion, one of three, part of a massive carved oak neo Norman settee, designed by Hopper. The 4 uprights of cluster column (rear) and barley twist (front) form, and the frieze rails are carved with diamond pattern. There is fishscale cresting to the back rail and animal heads. Low relief 'wild man' masks are applied to lower part of uprights. Settee covered with gold, silver and red silk lampas (by Prelle et Cie., 1985) with wool velvet seat, back and cushions. Frame repaired/repolished/ with some new carving by Regan, 1986, and upholstered by John Allen, 1986.
