Summary
Wine cistern. An oval silver-gilt wine cistern made by Garrards of London in 1894, applied on one side with a panel depicting charioteers racing and on the other with a magnificent representation of the Royal Arms. The cistern has vertical leaf capped handles applied with a lion's mask and rests on four massive feet standing on a large oval ebonised base with a plaque inscribed 'THE QUEEN'S VASE/THE GIFT OF/HER MAJESTY/ASCOT 1894/WON BY/QUAESITUM'.
Provenance
Acquired by the National Trust in 2002/2003 as part of the Acceptance in Lieu scheme.
