Summary
Cup and cover. A George III silver gilt vase-shaped cup with capstan-shaped cover, chased at the base with stiff leafage below two later inscribed ovals, applied at the rim with a band of trailing vines, with angular guilloche handles. The ovals are inscribed, 'NEWMARKET JULY CUP 1890' and 'WON BY QUEEN OF THE FAIRIES'. The cup, with the maker's mark 'AR London 1808', is mounted on a square plinth by C S Harris of London, 1890.
Provenance
Acquired by the National Trust in 2002/2003 as part of the Acceptance in Lieu scheme.
