Summary
White marble sculpture, The Rt Hon. Charles James Fox MP (1749-1806), studio of Joseph Nollekens, RA (London 1737 – London 1823), inscribed on reverse 'J. Nollekens sculpt'. This is a version of Nollekens's second portrait bust of Charles James Fox, another version of which belongs to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Draped bust, head turned slightly to the left, on a white marble socle. . All these 'political' busts were collected by William Howe Windham, and placed here on scagliola half-columns c.1840.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
