Summary
Watercolour on paper, Torr near Plymouth, by Arthur Shelly (Yarmouth, Isle of Wight 1841 - Torquay 1902). Signed and dated l.l. Shelly 1879. To the left a house stands amid trees with grazing cows to the right. Dealer stamp 'H.M. Harris, Devon and Cornwall Gallery, Plymouth'. Label on reverse 'Torr near Plymouth. The home of Robert Bayly, my mother's father, who rebuilt the house entirely c.1880. The painter was Arthur Shelly, born at Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, 1841; died at Torquay 1902, RWKC'.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
