Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, An Unknown Man in Brown by Abraham Daniel (d. Plymouth 1806) or Joseph Daniel (c.1760 - Bath 1803). 1790-1795. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, in a dark brown coat with high collar, white shirt and voluminous white bow tie. Light grey eyes, untidy powdered hair, fresh complexion with firm linear modellilng and strong shadow under nose, aged about 40. Plain unpainted ivory background, lit from the left.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
