Summary
One of three handwritten notes regarding the origin of two iron bracelets. Folded piece of paper with handwritten note - 'Iron Bracelets - When Napoleon Bonaparte in 1807-1809 endeavoured to crush the enemy - Ladies gave their jewels for the defence of their country. A gun taken from the French was afterwards ordered by the King of Prussia, husband of Queen Louisa, to be made into filigree ornaments and presented to the ladies who had given their jewels, with the motto "For gold I give iron".

Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
