Summary
A bronze sculpture with black lacquer of Fortune balancing on a Rudder, by the Italian (Venetian) School. It is possibly after Adriaen de Vries (Hague c.1545 -1626), after a type by Giambologna. It depicts a female figure balancing on a rudder, with flowing drapery and a veil or sail which is caught by the wind above her head. The sculpture is on a circular pedestal.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
